The sensitive nature of the water meadows as habitat for endangered plant and animal life requires sensitive animal management. Healthy stock require good land management.
To ensure the best of both, intervention of stock is kept to a minimum to provide meat that is not certified organic (we are too small a producer to make this a feasible step) but which is raised to our own high standards: we don’t want to eat meat that has been messed around with.
In accordance, hard feed is kept to a minimum: only for pregnant ewes. The rest of the stock is fed entirely on unimproved pasture and hay made on the farm. None of the stock are housed in winter keeping them naturally healthy and calm leading to higher quality meat.
